File # 2021-8706
Coquitlam RCMP are investigating after a man was shot this morning at 11:00 a.m., in the area of Gatensbury Street and Howie Avenue, Coquitlam. The male is in stable condition at this time and is expected to survive his injuries. This shooting comes on the heels of a shooting that occurred in the same area last night. At 9:30 p.m., on April 3rd, RCMP members were conducting enhanced patrols in the area due to a recent spate of shootings, heard a series of shots in the area of Good Neighbour Park located at 1415 Foster Avenue and were able to quickly respond. On attendance, no victims were located nor were any suspects. Investigators are attempting to determine if the two incidents are linked or not.
These two recent shootings follow two other shootings that took place earlier in the week, whereby two other males were also shot. Some tentative connections have been made to drugs and gang related activities with these two shootings, but the investigations are still in the early stages. Moreover, the victims are not being cooperative with our investigators.
While unprecedented, these four shootings are none-the-less alarming and we want to reassure the public that they are being thoroughly assessed by our investigators and analysts to determine if there are any links or not to each other and to the wider Lower Mainland gang conflict. To that end, investigators have engaged our law enforcement partners, including the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit. In addition, we are continuing with enhanced community patrols and proactive enforcement initiatives in the area.
We are appealing to the public to come forward if they have any information about these recent events or have CCTV footage from area businesses and residences. Should any member of the public observe any suspicious activities, please call police or Crime Stoppers.
Insp. Darren Carr
