File # 2021-2430
On February 14th at approximately 7:30p.m. the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP supported by the Chemainus Fire Department and BC Ambulance responded to the report of a man who had been struck by a vehicle and was found lying just off the road.
Front line RCMP officers arrived at the scene in the 9900 block of Chemainus Road and located the man who had succumbed to his injuries. The suspect driver and vehicle left the scene prior to police arrival.
North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are working alongside the Integrated Forensic Identification Services, and Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) to determine all the circumstances leading up to this incident and to locate those responsible.
Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, have dash cam footage or have information about this collision to contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP
says Corporal Chris Manseau, BC RCMP divisional media relations officer. This is a busy section of road, and even though the weather wasn’t great, investigators feel there was enough traffic for someone to have seen or heard something that can assist the investigation
.
The BC Coroners Service is also investigating to determine how, where, when and by what means he came to his death. Due to the privacy of the deceased, neither organization will be releasing or confirming identity.
