File # 2021-692
A Vancouver Island man is in custody after being arrested related to over forty charges.
In mid-January, 2021, police officers with the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP Street Crime Unit closed in on a priority offender with numerous warrants as well as a court ordered condition not to be on Vancouver Island. Officers located 37-year-old Tyler Elrix in the Duncan corridor area as he attempted to avoid being identified. Elrix was found in a vehicle confirmed stolen, and had numerous items in his possession also confirmed to be stolen, including guitars and jewellery.
This prolific offender has a history of fleeing from police, says Street Crimes Unit Cpl. Trevor March.
Street Crime Unit officers were able to identify Mr. Elrix and time the arrest to ensure he could not continue evading police, in addition to securing significant evidence to advance this investigation.
Tyler Elrix has been remanded in custody on thirty-seven previous charges along with new charges of theft over $5,000, possession of stolen property, breach of release order, and unlawfully in a dwelling house. His next court appearance is scheduled to take place on February 2, 2021.
