On November 16, 2022, at 5:12 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a complaint of voyeurism occurring at the Beaver Valley Arena, in Fruitvale, BC.
A parent reported the incident to the RCMP when it was discovered that an employee, a 21-year-old Trail man, had allegedly set up his cell phone to record video footage of youths inside the women’s changing room. The phone was noticed by girls preparing for a hockey practice who brought it to the attention of a parent. The parent seized the cell phone and turned it over to an responding officer.
Officers conducted an investigation into the incident which resulted in the arrest of the 21-year-old Trail man who was employed at the arena. RCMP officers took the man into custody and he was later released on several conditions including:
- No direct/indirect contacts with any of the victims
- Not to be in a place where anyone under 18 may reasonably be
- Not to go to Beaver Valley Arena
- Not to possess any device capable of recording images
- Report to Probation
Trail RCMP will forward one count of Voyeurism contrary to Section 162 of the Criminal Code to Provincial Crown Counsel. The 21-year-old man will make his first appearance on February 23, 2023, in Provincial Court, in Rossland, BC.
I would ilke to commend the girls for their actions and notifying a parent immediately. Trail RCMP will conduct a thorough investigation. Trail RCMP is in contact with the arena management and will work with them so measures can be put in place to help prevent this from occurring again in the future.
