On June 1 at approximately 12:30 p.m., University RCMP received a report from the BC Ambulance Service (EHS) that three 4th graders on a school outing to the UBC Botanical Gardens had been struck by a car that had left the roadway and ended up on a sidewalk.

University RCMP along with the Vancouver Fire Department (VFD) and BC Ambulance attended the scene and began to triage the victims. The three students, believed to be around 9 or 10 years old, were transported to hospital by EHS, with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. Their families have all been notified.

Preliminary investigation has determined that a single vehicle was involved and intoxication is not thought to be a factor at this time. The lone driver remained at scene and is cooperating with police. The driver was also treated on scene for minor injuries.

Specialists from Richmond RCMP Traffic Section, CCIT (Criminal Collision Investigation Team) & ICARS (Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstruction Team) are assisting with the investigation.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact the University RCMP Detachment at (604) 224-1322.
