Salary and benefits


When you start your training as a 9-1-1 Police Dispatcher, your annual salary will be $51,673. Salary is paid to you every second Wednesday as established in the payment in arrears process. This means you will receive pay for the weeks you have already worked.

Additional compensation

As a shift worker, you will receive additional compensation for working on weekends and statutory holidays. When you are scheduled to work on a statutory holiday, you will be paid at time and one half rate for all hours worked. You will also receive a shift premium of $2.00 per hour for all hours worked between 4:00 pm and 8:00 am and an additional weekend premium of $2.00 per hour for all hours worked on Saturdays and Sundays.

Upon successful completion of the nine-month 9-1-1 Police Dispatcher Training Program, you will be promoted to a 9-1-1- Police Dispatcher (TCO-02). Your annual salary will increase to $56,837. You will also be eligible for four annual pay increments, increasing your salary up to $66,496 after four years of service.

The Public Service group insurance benefit plans provide you with peace of mind today and for years to come. As a 9-1-1 Police Dispatcher Trainee, you will be provided with the following benefits:

Public Service Health Care Plan
After 3 months on the job, you are eligible for extended health care coverage. This plan provides coverage for the cost of prescription drugs and certain medical expenses. Premiums may or may not be applicable depending on the level and daily coverage selected.

Dental Care Plan
After 3 months on the job, you are eligible for dental care coverage. Enrolment is automatic and the premiums are paid by the employer.

Disability Insurance Plan
Mandatory coverage for full-time and part-time employees who are appointed for more than 6 months or who have completed 6 months of continuous employment. The Disability Insurance premiums are 85% employer paid and 15% paid by the employee; your portion is deducted from your salary.

Public Service Pension Plan
After your first day on the job, you are eligible for pension benefit provisions. This plan provides you with a lifetime income after retirement. Pension plan premiums are 50% employer paid; your portion is deducted from your salary.

Coaching & Facilitating
Coaching and Training roles are available to qualified 9-1-1 Police Dispatchers. To become a trainer, you will take part in the RCMP National Field Coaching and Facilitator programs and be instrumental in training future 9-1-1 Police Dispatchers.

Supervisor, Team Leader, and Manager roles are available to employees with a desire and ability to lead others. The RCMP offers supervisor and manager leadership programs.

Special Event Assignments
Special event assignments are available to 9-1-1 Police Dispatchers such as government leadership summits, international sporting events, and other planned and unprecedented events.
