File # 7001 2025-689
On the scale of high-risk driving, speeding past a police car while impaired, and on your way to pick up your child, is very high.
On April 14, 2025, just after 11:00 a.m., a BC Highway Patrol officer was driving on the Nanaimo Parkway near Mostar Road, Nanaimo, when a car sped by his unmarked police vehicle.

The BC Highway Patrol officer recorded the passing vehicle going 210 km/h. That was 120 over the limit of 90 km/h,
says Inspector Adam Tallboy with BC Highway Patrol. When the car was stopped, the driver said he was going to pick up his child. He then provided two breath samples both of which had a reading of ‘fail’.
The 31-year-old Nanaimo man who was driving was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, a $483 excessive speeding ticket, and the car was towed and impounded for 30 days at the owner’s expense.
BC Highway Patrol officers use a variety of ways to stop dangerous drivers, including the use of unmarked vehicles,
says Inspector Tallboy. Anyone who makes the choice to drive at extreme speeds while they are impaired is a danger to every person who uses the road. Please, make responsible choices when you drive.
