Complaints

Anyone who has concerns about the actions of a Surrey RCMP member or the service provided by the Surrey RCMP may file a complaint.

Complaints can be resolved both informally and formally, depending on the nature of your concern. Although formal investigations are sometimes necessary, informal resolution can offer an alternative method for resolving complaints that can allow for a better understanding between parties, improved relationships, and a beneficial learning opportunity for both complainant and the police officer.

Informal resolution may include discussions with the police officer and/or their supervisor about the occurrence and steps that can be taken to both rectify it and ensure that it is not repeated. A formal resolution would involve a file being opened and investigated by our Professional Standards Unit.

We encourage individuals with questions or concerns about the actions of Surrey RCMP staff to contact us.

For those who do not wish to contact the Surrey RCMP directly, they can file their complaint through the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission for the RCMP.  This is an independent agency that is not part of the RCMP. Complaints can be submitted online, by phone/fax, and by mail.
