Remembering our Fallen Officers

We remember the sacrifice of our five fallen Surrey RCMP who died while on duty.

• 

  Cst. Archille Octave Maxime LEPINE

  On July 15, 1962, Cst. Lepine was posted to the Patullo Bridge Unit in Surrey. He was driving a police motorcycle on King George Boulevard when a vehicle turned left in front of him. As a result of injuries suffered from the collision, Cst. Lepine passed away in hospital on July 19, 1962.

  Cst. Roger Emile PIERLET

  On March 29, 1974, Cst. Pierlet was working his last shift before taking time off to be married. He noticed a vehicle being driven erratically, and after stopping the vehicle was fatally shot. The driver and passenger were sentenced to death and the sentences were later changed to life imprisonment.

  Cst. John Terrance DRAGINDA

  On September 29, 1974, Cst. Draginda was on General Duty at Surrey Detachment, riding with an Auxiliary when they were involved in a collision with another vehicle at the intersection of 152 Street and 96 Avenue. Cst. Draginda and two people in the other vehicle were killed.

  Cst. John Brian BALDWINSON

  On October 28, 1975, Cst. Baldwinson was working with the General Investigation Unit and driving back to Surrey Detachment. It was late at night, with poor visibility and he had just passed another police vehicle on Pacific Highway #15, when he collided with a horse on the roadway. Cst. Baldwinson died as a result.

  Cst. Adrian OLIVER

  On November 13, 2012, Cst. Oliver was on General Duty at Surrey Detachment and driving back to the Detachment when, in responding to a report of stolen vehicle, he was involved in a collision with a semi tractor trailer at the intersection of 148 Street and 64 Avenue. Cst. Oliver passed away as a result of this collision.

Remembering our Fallen Officers

Memorial Cairn

On November 14th, 2014, the Surrey RCMP embarked on a project to rebuild the public Surrey RCMP memorial cairn that was originally built in 1975. Over the past 39 years, the cairn had deteriorated and, since the loss of Constable Oliver in 2012, the detachment has been working with the City to rebuild the memorial so that Constable Oliver’s name could be respectfully added.

As with the original cairn, the completion of the new memorial required the support of the detachment’s officers, municipal staff, and volunteers who raised the funds for the project.

Wall of Honour

On October 19, 2006, the Surrey RCMP Wall of Honour was unveiled with photos of the fallen officers. The project was the vision of Surrey RCMP officers and staff who raised the funds to bring the dedication wall to fruition. The Wall of Honour is located in the central atrium of the Surrey Detachment as a reminder to all who pass by of the service and sacrifice of the fallen officers.

Adrian Oliver Memorial Run

The Adrian Oliver Memorial Run is an annual 5K or 10K race around Deer Lake Park in Burnaby, BC. The run is held in support of Honour House, a home away from home for first responders. Honour House opened its doors to the Oliver family who travelled to the Vancouver area from across Canada to be with family and friends.
