Stabbing on Surrey bus leads to IHIT deployment

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been deployed to Surrey after a man was fatally stabbed.

Background:

On April 11, 2023 at 9:28 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a man suffering from life threatening injuries resulting from a stabbing in the in 9900-block of King George Boulevard. Surrey RCMP officers responded along with BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) and emergency first aid was provided. Sadly, the victim died as a result of his injuries a shortly after being transported to hospital. IHIT has taken conduct of the investigation and is working closely in partnership with the Surrey RCMP Detachment, BC Coroners Service and the RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Section.

At this time, investigators believe this to be an isolated incident with no connection to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict. The victim has been identified as a 17-year old boy from Surrey.

We are still in the early stages of the investigation, says Sergeant Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. Investigators are asking any witnesses who have yet to speak with police, to contact IHIT immediately.

IHIT is asking that any witnesses or anyone with dash camera video who attended the area of the 9900-block of King George between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. or anyone who has any information regarding the incident, to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
