Joint ocean rescue operation ends positively

On August 22, 2023, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Sooke RCMP were called to respond to concerns that an adult male had entered the ocean near Kaltasin Road, Sooke B.C. and had disappeared from view.

The Sooke RCMP responded and were assisted in a coordinated search effort by the Joint Rescue Coordination Center, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue, Coast Guard, 442 Squadron, Cowichan Search and Rescue, Sooke Fire and BC Ambulance Service.

Fortunately, on August 23, 2023, at approximately 3:00 a.m., the man was located by Search and Rescue after making it to land on his own, unharmed.

Due to an ongoing police investigation underway, no further detail will be released at this time.
