File # 2023-349
On February 14th, 2023 at approximately 3:00 PM (MST), Creston RCMP Officers responded to the area of Riondel in response to a matter reported out of Red Deer, Alberta. A man allegedly abducted his child in Red Deer, contrary to a Family Court Order.
The man was believed to have fled to the Southeastern area of BC. Officers received information that indicated the possible location of the subjects, in Riondel. Officers responded to the area and located the man and his son.
A residence in Riondel was contained by frontline officers where they ultimately negotiated the peaceful surrender of the man, and the safe apprehension of the child.
The arrested suspect was brought into custody and will be transported back to Alberta to appear before the Court of the King’s Bench. The child is safe, unharmed and now in the care of child services pending return to his family in Red Deer.
Situations such as this are dynamic and require a methodic approach focussed on the safety of everyone involved. The frontline officers of Creston Detachment did an outstanding job in quickly locating these subjects, de-escalating the situation, and ultimately bringing the matter to a peaceful resolution. I am proud of the expeditious and professional response by our officers, and for their continued commitment to serving the people of the Creston Valley.
