File # 2020-2086

On September 2nd, 2020, at 9:30 p.m., Summerland front-line officers proactively attended a suite at a motel located on Highway 97 in an effort to arrest a man on a warrant.

Upon approaching the suite, officers saw two men inside the motel suite and two other occupants who appeared to be in distress. Officers entered the suite and determined that the two men had allegedly been carrying out a robbery against the occupants. One of the two men was arrested at the scene, while the second man was able to escape in a nearby vehicle. The occupants of the suite suffered minor injuries.

The man arrested at the scene, 44-year-old, Jeffrey Pelly, was remanded in custody. A warrant has been issued for the other accused, identified as 28-year-old Matthew Bonner.

As a result of the investigation, the BC Prosecution Service has approved charges against both men of robbery, disguise with intent, using an imitation firearm while committing a robbery and break and enter with intent. The matter is now before the court.

Should anyone have information on the whereabouts of Matthew Bonner, they’re encouraged to contact Police or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
