File # 2020-3268

On Saturday, July 18 2020 Nelson RCMP were called to an area known as Sixmile Beach after it was reported that two people appeared to be struggling in the water.

Before police arrived, a woman was rescued from the water by a paddle boarder and was safe on the shore. The woman’s companion, a 23-year-old man was unaccounted for and last seen going under water.

Search and Rescue were called and made extensive patrols using sonar and camera equipment but were unable to locate the missing man.

The next day, July 19th 2020, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team searched the water and located the man near where he was last seen.

The BC Coroners Service is also investigating the man’s death. There is no evidence to suggest that there is anything suspicious in the death. Neither organization will be releasing or confirming identity. No other information is available at this time.
