Speeding impounds on the rise

Maple Ridge, B.C. – Ridge Meadow’s RCMP are reminding drivers to check their speeds while driving as police are seeing a rise in excessive speeding.
From March 14 to March 18 police have ticketed and impounded six vehicles for excessive speeding. Excessive speeding is travelling 40 km/hr or more over the posted speed limit and automatically comes with a seven day impound penalty.
Examples of offences just this week throughout both Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows include;
- 124 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone (44 km/hr over)
- 117 km/hr in a posted 70 km/hr zone (47 km/hr over)
- 108 km/hr in a posted 60 km/hr zone (48 km/hr over)
- 95 km/hr in a posted 50km zone (45 km/hr over)
Having your vehicle impounded is not only a huge inconvenience but it ends up being very costly as the registered owner of the car is responsible for the towing and impound fees on top of the fine amount which starts at $368.00,
states Inspector Adam Gander. Most drivers are paying attention and driving within the posted limits.
Police are also concentrating on looking for distracted drivers as March kicks off ICBC’s distracted driving awareness campaign. Distracted driving is the second leading cause of collisions resulting in a fatality.
