File # 2024-1394

Shortly after 12:15 pm on January 13, 2024 Richmond RCMP were called to assist with an aggressive passenger on a flight inbound to the Vancouver International Airport.

Richmond RCMP were advised that during the flight the passenger had allegedly assaulted someone travelling with them. Based on the individual’s behaviours, Airline staff determined they posed a potential safety risk to staff and passengers and were restrained.

Richmond RCMP boarded the flight when it landed and after a lengthy attempt to de-escalate ultimately apprehended the passenger under Section 28 of the Mental Health Act. While escorting the passenger off of the flight, they were actively resisting by biting and spitting on our officers. For the safety of our officers and the public, a spit hood was placed on the individual.
