The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 406 calls for service from Friday July 12, to 9 a.m. on Monday July 15, 2024. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Assault downtown

2024-22399

Police responding to an assault ended up seizing drugs and weapons as part of the investigation.

On Sunday July 14, around 5:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to Victoria Street West where a man had allegedly been assaulted in front of City Hall. Officers located a victim, who was transported to hospital by ambulance, as well as a number of people in the area who were known to police.

As part of the investigation, officers seized bear spray, a large knife, replica firearm, brass knuckles, an electric scooter that had been reported stolen, and 15 grams of suspected fentanyl. Two intoxicated men were arrested and lodged in cells to sober up safely, then later released.

Erratic driver arrested for multiple offences

A report of a possibly impaired driver in a red SUV helped police locate and arrest a man prohibited from driving.

On Monday July 15, 2024, just before 4 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 300-block of Columbia Street in response to the report. Police located the vehicle, which allegedly fled onto the highway. As part of the investigation, officers located the vehicle shortly after at a residence and arrested its driver – a man known to police – for failure to comply with release conditions and driving related offences including prohibited and dangerous driving.

The man was released with a court date and conditions. Charge recommendations anticipated as part of the assessment and approval process.

Warrant execution following theft report

A wanted man was located after he allegedly provided police with a false belonging to a prolific offender.

On Saturday July 13, 2024, around 8 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to the 900-block of Columbia Street West for a theft report. Police located and arrested a suspect nearby, who allegedly provided a false name and was held in custody. Soon after, he was recognized by another officer who revealed the suspect’s true identity and that he was wanted on a warrant.

An unendorsed warrant for aggravated assault was executed. The suspect was also arrested for obstruction, with charge recommendations submitted as part of the review and assessment process.

Guns, weapons located in truck

2024-22073

Responding to a suspicious vehicle parked downtown led police to a seizure of items including firearms, pepper spray, and a taser.

On Friday July 12, 2024, around 6:40 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were patrolling downtown when they located a grey Ford pickup truck in a parking lot on Seymour Street, associated to a suspicious vehicle report. As part of the investigation, police seized what appeared to be an assault rifle and mag, handgun, knives, zap straps, a wig, suspected drugs, and other items. Two men were arrested and later released without process, pending further investigation.

The truck was impounded for mechanical deficiencies.
