The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 347 calls for service from Friday May 17 to 9 a.m. on Monday May 20, 2024. Below are some highlights from those reports.
Business break-in
2024-15057
Police are looking for information and video after a downtown business was broken into this weekend.
In the early hours of Monday morning, around 1:20 a.m., May 20, 2024, Kamloops RCMP frontline officers received a report of an alarm at a commercial location on the 400-block of Seymour Street. Police arrived to find the glass door smashed and a cash till missing. A suspect was described as wearing a light coloured ballcap, mask, green or grey jacket, light coloured pants, and dark shoes.

Disturbance downtown

A man was arrested early Monday morning after allegedly threatening staff and patrons downtown.
On May 20, 2024, around 2 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 300-block of Victoria Street where a man was trying to start fights and causing a disturbance. Police located and arrested the suspect.
He was lodged in cells to sober up safely and prevent continuation of the offence.
Wanted man arrested

Police officers responding to a report of people cutting down trees and setting up camp on McArthur Island ended up locating a wanted man.
While investigating the report on Sunday morning, May 19, 2024, police checks confirmed a man who the officer was speaking with was wanted on an unendorsed warrant for assault causing bodily harm.
He was arrested and transported to cells and held for a bail hearing, during which he was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
Police investigating arson

Kamloops police are looking for information related to a utility trailer fire on 10th Street Sunday morning.
On May 19, 2024, around 8:15 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers received a request to assist Kamloops Fire and Rescue with a suspicious fire at an address known to police. A trailer containing household items was damaged, after what appeared to be an incendiary device was thrown at it, causing it to ignite.
Two suspects are described as males with light skin. The first, was wearing a black hoodie, large tan backpack, and had a beard. The second, was in a plaid jacket with a dark hood up.

Assault with a weapon

Kamloops police are investigating an assault report on the North Shore Sunday afternoon.
On May 19, 2024, around 2:50 p.m., police were called to the area of King Street and McDonald Avenue where two people had allegedly been assaulted by three people with weapons. The victims were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A suspect was located in the area and arrested; two pellet guns were seized during a subsequent search. The assault is not believed to be random. The suspect was later released pending further investigation.

Impaired driver

Going the wrong way on a one-way street led to an impaired driver getting caught by police this weekend.
On Sunday May 19, 2024, around 2:30 a.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was patrolling downtown when he observed a vehicle travelling eastbound on Lansdowne Street at 5th Avenue. The officer conducted a traffic stop, and as part of the investigation, administered roadside breath tests which registered fail readings, indicating a blood alcohol content exceeding .08.
A 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day vehicle impound were issued under the Motor Vehicle Act.
Call to police helps locate impaired driver

A report of an impaired driver leaving a residence in a vehicle led to police locating the suspect on the roadway.
Early Sunday morning, May 19, 2024, around 3 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers received a report of a possible impaired driver in the area of Holt Road. While conducting patrols for the vehicle, police located and stopped the driver at Chilcotin Road and Nishga Way. As part of the investigation, two roadside breath tests were administered which both registered as fails, indicating a blood alcohol content exceeding .08.
The driver received a 90-day prohibition, and the vehicle -- which belonged to someone else-- was towed from the scene.
Weapons report: man arrested

Drugs, cash, and a pistol were seized by police responding to a call involving a man shooting a bb gun downtown Friday morning.
On May 17, 2024, around 7:35 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the 200-block of Victoria Street West in response to the report and located a suspect. As part of the investigation, police found what appeared to be a black handgun and was later confirmed to be a bb gun. Tools, drugs, cash, and other items were also seized.
The suspect was arrested, lodged in cells, then released with a court date and conditions, with charge recommendations anticipated as part of the approval and assessment process.
