The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 388 calls for service from Friday May 26, to 9 a.m. on Monday May 29, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Fighting downtown

A man was taken to cells Friday night, following a report of a person starting fights downtown.

On May 26, 2023, around 2:40 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 400-block of St. Paul Street in response to the report, during which they located a man nearby arguing with people. The same man had been responsible for generating several other calls for service in the area as well.

He was arrested and lodged in cells to prevent continuation of the offence, then released without process once sobered.

Police presence: weapons report

Police were called to McArthur Island Friday night for a report of a person in ‘Santa pants’ with what appeared to be a handgun.

On May 26, 2023, around 10:20 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the area in response to the weapons report, where they located a group of youths attempting to flee. Police caught up with the youths, and as part of the investigation, located a pair of 3D-printed brass knuckles, but no one wearing ‘Santa pants’ or in possession of a handgun.

A youth matching the suspect description was located the next day and surrendered an airsoft handgun to police. He was provided a warning regarding the presentation of a pistol in public, even an airsoft.

Assault with a weapon in Valleyview

Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to the 1700-block of the East Trans Canada Highway to assist ambulance with a man who had allegedly been stabbed.

On Sunday May 28, 2023, around 4:50 a.m., police attended the location and found a man with non-life threatening injuries to his hand. Officers patrolled the area, but no suspect was found.

Man arrested in assault investigation

A woman was taken to hospital and a man was arrested, following a report of an assault on the North Shore this weekend.

On May 28, 2023, around 8:40 p.m., police were called to an address on Tranquille Road where they located a woman with non-life injuries. As part of the investigation, officers located a suspect on Sherwood Drive and arrested him for assault causing bodily harm.

He was lodged in cells, then released when sobered with a court date and conditions. Charge recommendations are anticipated as part of the assessment process.

Stolen firearm recovered

A traffic stop on 12th Street led to the discovery of a firearm previously reported as stolen.

On May 28, 2023, around 11:15 p.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was making patrols when they noted a BMW station wagon registered to a prohibited driver, that was also missing its front licence plate and had a damaged taillight.

During the investigation, officers located a firearm and a license plate that had been reported as stolen. The driver was arrested and released with a court date for offences related to the unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of stolen property, as part of the charge recommendation and assessment process. He also received violation tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act.
