Police investigating weekend arson

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is looking to identify a suspect responsible for a fire on 8th Street this weekend.

On April 23, 2023, around 6:50 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 900-block of 8th Street, where Kamloops Fire and Rescue was extinguishing a blaze responsible for damaging a rear door of a commercial location.

Security footage obtained as part of the investigation shows a suspect on a green and yellow mountain bike with a blue blanket draped over it, wearing a grey hoodie, bluish pants, white shoes, and a cast or bandage wrapped around their right forearm, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson. The suspect, believed to be male, departed southbound on 8th Street.

Remnants of a burnt tire were located on scene.
