Kamloops police are releasing the name and image of a deceased man discovered in a dumpster Thursday night to help further the investigation into his death.

Gregory Troy Hamilton, who also went by the alias of Troy Hamilton and the nickname ‘Monster’, was located in a dumpster between two buildings on the 1900-block of Curlew Drive around 11:30 p.m., Thursday April 20, 2023. Police are currently investigating his death and working on determining whether it is suspicious.

Troy, who many may know as ‘Monster’, was a transient resident in both the Kamloops and 100 Mile House communities, said Sergeant Nestor Baird of the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit. We are asking members of the public to please have a look at his picture and contact us if they have any information related to his recent movements or recognize him as someone they saw around their neighbourhood. Collecting as much information as possible from the days leading up to his death will help us timeline his last movements as part of the investigation into what transpired.

Members of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s Serious Crime Unit, General Investigation Support Unit, Forensic Identification Services Unit, and Frontline Officers are involved in the investigation, and continue their appeal to the public for information and video.

If you live or work in the Valleyview area, please take a few minutes to review any dash cam footage or security video you may have for the last couple of weeks to see if it captured any of Troy’s movements, even if the images may have seemed insignificant at the time, said Sgt. Baird.

The BC Coroners Service is conducting a concurrent investigation. An autopsy is scheduled to help determine a cause of death.

No further information is available at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-13551.
