File # 2023-11551

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is investigating an early morning fire at a downtown residence.

On April 6, 2023, around 5 a.m., Kamloops RCMP Detachment frontline officers were attending an address on the 600-block of Seymour Street for an unrelated matter, when they were alerted to a fire down the road.

The officers attended and observed the west side of a residence on fire, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. They knocked on the doors and windows and yelled into the residence to alert anyone who might be inside, but no one responded.

Kamloops Fire Rescue arrived, extinguished the fire, and confirmed no one was inside. The investigation into the fire’s cause is ongoing.

Right now, it’s too early in the investigation to make any assumptions into the cause of the fire, including if it’s suspicious, said Cpl. Evelyn. Anyone who witnessed or has information related to the incident is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment as soon as possible.

Those who witnessed, have video, or know anything that could help further the investigation are asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-11551.
