The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 358 calls for service from Friday Feb. 17, to 9 a.m. on Feb. 20, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Robbery report

A woman was allegedly robbed of cash and a Bluetooth speaker downtown on Friday night.

Around 9:15 p.m., on Feb. 17, 2023, Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to an assault in the alleyway behind the 500-block of Victoria Street. The victim reported being struck with an blunt object, then having her pink wallet with flowers on it stolen, along with the speaker. The suspect was described as a female with darker complexion, black hair, a black toque, and dark clothing.

The incident is not believed to be random. Anyone who witnessed or has information related to the pink wallet, speaker, or the incident, is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-5711.

Robbery on video

Kamloops police are investigating a downtown robbery reported by a witness who captured it on dash video.

On Feb. 17, 2023, around 5:11 pm., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were contacted about an assault and theft that allegedly occurred on Seymour Street and 6th Avenue around 4:20 p.m. According to the report, a person was driving when they observed two men run up to another man, assault him, and steal his belongings.

The first suspect is described as a Caucasian man his 20s with scruffy facial hair and glasses, dressed in a yellow backpack, green hoodie, and ripped blue jeans. The second suspect is also male, with a teardrop tattoo under his left eye, army leggings, and a black parka with fur hood.

The victim was an older male, skinny, in a black winter coat and jeans.

Man arrested for breach

What began as a report of a fight with weapons ended with a man getting arrested for breaching his release conditions.

On Feb. 17, 2023, around 10 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the 700-block of Sydney Avenue and arrested a suspect for possession of a dangerous weapon. As part of the investigation, police discovered the man was allegedly in breach of his release conditions.

He was held for a bail hearing and remanded in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 23, 2023.

Found firearm

Police are looking for information after a backpack containing a suspected handgun was found on the North Shore.

On Feb. 18, 2023, just before 1 p.m., police were contacted by a person who had located the bag on the 2500-block of Tranquille Road earlier that morning. The suspected firearm was loaded and other ammunition was present. The Kamloops RCMP Detachment Forensic Identification Unit is assisting with the investigation.

Anyone who witnessed or has video surveillance in the area that may have captured how the bag attended up on the front lawn, is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-5773.

High-risk takedown

A report of a person with a possible handgun led to a high-risk takedown in a parking lot this weekend.

On Saturday Feb. 18, 2023, around 8:40 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the lookout on University Way for a report of two people in a parking lot, one of which appeared to be pointing what looked like a firearm at the road.

Multiple officers attended and located two people; one had a pistol in hand. Both were taken into custody in a high-risk take down, without incident. Further investigation revealed the suspected firearm was a realistic-looking pellet gun and did not appear to be intended for criminal purposes.

Both suspects were released without process and the pellet gun was relinquished to police for destruction.

Man arrested for assault police, threats

Kamloops police left a request to assist ambulance with one man in custody and minor injuries.

On Sunday Feb. 19, 2023, around 3:15 a.m., frontline officers attended a residence on the 1000-block of Columbia Street for a report of an intoxicated man having a mental health crisis. Police attempted to speak to the man unsuccessfully, as he continued to threaten those present. When advised he was under arrest, the man allegedly attempted to grab a weapon, but was stopped by officers. He continued to resist arrest and assault police present.

The man was lodged in cells to sober up safely, then put in contact with a Connections worker prior to his release. The investigation is ongoing.

Assault investigation, man arrested

A man was taken into custody after police were called to a suspicious occurrence on Collingwood Drive in the early hours of Monday morning.

Around 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 20, 2023, Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the area in response to a report of a doorbell camera capturing a woman knocking on a door, then being pulling away by a person.

Police located the woman and upon further investigation, arrested a man for assault and breach offences. He was held for court.
