File # 2022-37339

A portion of Columbia Street is currently closed to traffic following a crash that damaged multiple properties and vehicles this morning.

Around 4:20 a.m. on Oct. 18, 2022, Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the area of Columbia Street between 12th and 13th avenues for a report of a semi-truck that crashed through a front yard and into a house; a number of other vehicles on the roadway were also struck and badly damaged. A suspect driver allegedly fled from the transport truck, but was located soon after and taken into custody as part of the criminal investigation.

Miraculously, no one was injured despite the damage that occurred in the area, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. A portion of Columbia Street remains closed for the time being as police conduct a criminal investigation with the assistance of Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement, and ensure the roadway is clear for safe travel.

The City of Kamloops Community Services Officers are assisting with traffic control.

Police are asking anyone in the area with security or dash cam footage that may have captured this morning’s events, or anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken with officers, to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-37339.
