File # 2023-17333

Coquitlam RCMP are seeking additional witnesses and videos of an incident that occurred on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 9:00 p.m. during a live performance hosted for Canada Day at Town Centre Park located at 1299 Pinetree Way in Coquitlam.

Coquitlam RCMP Investigational Support Team (IST) are investigating what caused a standalone light fixture to fall on spectators during the live performance which resulted in a woman being taken to hospital. The light fixture was located at the top of the bleachers facing the main stage.

The victim suffered significant but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are seeking additional information to determine if the incident involved any criminal intent.

This event was well attended by thousands of people who may have seen the light fixture before it fell on spectators sitting in the bleachers of the nighttime performance, said Corporal Alexa Hodgins, Media Relations Officer for Coquitlam RCMP. We are asking the public to review their photographs or videos taken between 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2023 around the bleachers as the light fixture may be visible in the background.

If anyone witnessed this incident or has information, they are asked to contact the Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2023-17333.
