Burnaby RCMP will be doing proactive public awareness and outreach patrols over the coming days to connect homeless and vulnerable community members with Cooling Centre location information and other resources.

The City of Burnaby is operating four Cooling Centre locations, which will remain open between 10 am and 10 pm daily starting Saturday, August 3, 2024 until the heat subsides.

In addition, the Society to End Homelessness in Burnaby is operating a pop-up cooling station between 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.:

Burnaby RCMP is also urging families to make sure windows are secure, as they can be dangerous for children.

Pets should not be left in vehicles during the hot weather. Animals in distress can be reported to police or the SPCA Provincial Call Centre at 1-855-622-7722.

Heat can be dangerous. To stay safe, Fraser Health suggests staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activities during the day, and self-monitoring for signs of heat-related illness.
