File # 2023-346

On January 6th 2023, at approximately 2:50 p.m., the West Shore RCMP and BC Highway Patrol responded to a vehicle collision just North of Finlayson Arm Rd on the Trans-Canada Highway.

The collision occurred when traffic slowed down suddenly in the North bound lane. Most vehicles came to a safe stop. However, one vehicle, a 2007 Chrysler Sebring did not stop and rear ended a 2021 Subaru Forrester. The impact of the collision was so hard that the Green 2021 Subaru wound up rolling up over the hood and on top of the roof of the Sebring.

This collision shut the highway down in both directions for approximately an hour while crews worked to clear the scene causing delays for hundreds of commuters on a busy Friday afternoon. The driver of the Sebring was a prohibited driver and will be facing charges under the Motor Vehicle Act. Remarkably no injuries were reported in this collision, said Cpl. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.
