File # 2022-19921

On November 16th 2022, a West Shore RCMP General Duty officer was near the 2600 block of Sooke Rd in Langford investigating an unrelated police matter, when he witnessed a Black Jeep Cherokee drive over the grass median and head westbound on Sooke Rd.

The officer redirected his attention to the erratic driver and pulled the vehicle over. The driver, a 23-year-old male, was exhibiting signs of alcohol intoxication and provided samples of his breath into a Approved Roadside Screening Device. The driver failed the roadside tests and was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

The officer provided the driver a ride home. Upon arriving safely at his doorstep, the driver turned and thanked the officer for keeping the streets safe and asked the officer for a hug.

We don’t often get thanked for the job we do especially by those who find themselves on the opposite side of the law. It was nice for the officer and for the rest of us at West Shore RCMP to hear this, said Cpl. Nancy Saggar West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.

With the holiday season around the corner, you can expect to see West Shore RCMP Traffic Services and General Duty officers out conducting check stops. Please plan ahead for a safe ride home or, arrange for a designated driver.
