File # 2024-35469

Burnaby RCMP’s Prolific Offender Suppression Team (POST) arrested six men after a 2-month-long investigation into a mail theft series.

After two break and enters at an apartment building in the 6500-block of Telford Avenue in October, 2024, Burnaby RCMP’s POST identified a group of suspects and initiated an investigation into the group.

On December 11, 2024, POST executed a search warrant at a residence in the 5000-block of Belleville Avenue, in Burnaby. Four men were arrested at the home and a large number of offence related items were seized.

Six men now face a multitude of potential fraud and theft related charges.

Nearly 1,600 items were seized as part of the investigation, including:

Over three hundred blurred bank cards displayed on the floor. Approximately two hundred blurred identification cards displayed on the floor.

Numerous blurred fraudulent cheques displayed on the floor.

The proliferation of identity thefts is a serious issue which can cause significant financial hardship, and in some cases, financial devastation, said Insp. Matt Toews, Burnaby RCMP’s Investigative Services Officer. In this case, the thieves were organized and had equipment to mass-produce false identification. The large seizure of various identification and manufacturing equipment will have saved numerous victims from financial hardship.

The investigation is ongoing.
