Meet your Detachment Commander – Insp. Scott Mercer

Inspector Scott Mercer became Comox Valley’s RCMP Detachment Commander in July 2024.
Comox Valley Detachment polices the communities of Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland, Comox Valley Regional District, K'omoks First Nation, Denman Island, Hornby Island with a combined population of approximately 80,000 residents.
Insp. Mercer comes to the community with 19 years of service, with Comox Valley Detachment being his first post in British Columbia.
Coming from all his previous service in Alberta, Insp. Mercer has policed large and small municipalities, rural, as well as Indigenous to conclude Cree and Blackfoot communities. His service is evenly split between Contract Policing and Plain Clothes to include Crime Reduction, Community Policing, Media Relations, and Drugs and Serious Crimes. His last post before transferring to B.C. was with the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) who was responsible for the oversight of all police agencies in the Province of Alberta.
As soon as I arrived, I immediately noticed the experience and skill set of everyone working at this detachment. Everyone works well together and they never hesitate to offer a lending hand, making it truly a cohesive team. I place great value on a strong work ethic and a genuine desire to help the community and that is something I see with the people at this detachment,
