A suspect has been charged in relation to the recent homicide in Ambleside.

On December 13, 2024 just after 1:00 a.m., the West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD) responded to a request to check the well-being of a 911 caller in the Ambleside District. Upon arrival, the police located a deceased woman with injuries that appeared to be suspicious. A suspect was identified on scene and taken into custody.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct of the investigation and has worked closely in partnership with WVPD, the Lower Mainland District Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service.

On December 13, 2024, the BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) laid a charge of second-degree murder against 39-year-old Michael Dean Boretsky, in relation to this investigation.

We believe that this was a tragic incident of family violence. As the parties were known to each other, investigators believe this to be an isolated event, says Corporal Esther Tupper of IHIT. IHIT would like to thank WVPD, IFIS and the BC Coroners Service for their assistance in advancing this investigation.

IHIT is asking anyone with information about this incident to contact the IHIT directly at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

As this matter is now before the courts, no further information will be released.
