Media is invited to attend the launch event on December 7, 2024, at 8:00 p.m., on Grandview Highway near Boundary Road on the edge of Burnaby and Vancouver, BC, where BC Highway Patrol will be set up with our policing partners. It’s all part of the Winter Impaired Driving Campaign for the month of December, and the launch event is just one of the concurrent roadblocks happening from Hope to Pemberton and throughout northern BC, the Kootenays, the Okanagan and Vancouver Island.

We know we’ll get lots of positive support from people who stay sober and responsible on the roads, says Superintendent Mike Coyle with BC Highway Patrol. The statistics are clear: People who choose to drive while impaired by drugs or alcohol are the leading cause of criminal death and injury in Canada, and we will work to get those people off the road.

Road users around BC can expect to see extra roadblocks throughout December and everyone is encouraged to plan a safe ride home. BC Highway Patrol invites you to have conversations with people you know who might otherwise drive impaired, and your children, about making good choices.
BC Highway Patrol will be Tweeting updates about Light Up the Province throughout the launch weekend from December 7 to 10. The public is invited to follow along @BCHwyPatrol to see what’s happening.

Parking directions for media:
