Media availability: Richmond RCMP and MADD Metro Vancouver to host impaired driving awareness event

Richmond RCMP and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Metro Vancouver invite media to attend an exclusive event aimed at raising awareness around impaired driving as the holiday season approaches. This media event will highlight proactive safety measures and the emotional toll impaired driving takes on families and communities.

Richmond RCMP Senior Operations Officer, Superintendent Julie Drotar, and MADD Metro Vancouver representative Bob Rorison will speak about the joint efforts to prevent impaired driving. Rorison, a long-time MADD volunteer and advocate, has dedicated years to raising awareness after experiencing a life-changing incident involving an impaired driver. His message, paired with the impactful story of Jacob Simmons—a young man remembered in MADD’s 2024 Project Red Ribbon campaign—highlight the urgent need for planning ahead for a sober driving commitments and planning ahead for a safe ride home. ICBC representatives will be onsite with their crash car, and will be performing an educational demonstration with Fatal Vision goggles.
