File # 2024-17022
Comox Valley RCMP is reminding the community about the importance of stranger danger
awareness after an incident at Courtenay Elementary School yesterday afternoon.
On November 5, 2024 police received a report that a man was seen on school property at approximately 1:10 p.m. attempting to engage in conversation with young students. A teacher approached the man, which prompted him to leave the area.
We are releasing a photo of the man which was obtained as he was walking away in an effort to speak with him and gather more information.
Said Cst. Monika Terragni, Media Relations Officer, Comox Valley RCMP. This step is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of our community’s children.
Parents, care-givers, and guardians are encouraged to speak with children about how to safely respond to unfamiliar people. Here are some simple and helpful reminders for young people:
- If approached by someone they don’t know, children should not engage in conversation.
- Encourage them to always stay in well supervised areas, especially near schools.
- Remind them that it’s okay to say
no
and walk away, seeking help from a trusted adult if needed.
If you recognize the person in the image, or have any information that may assist with the investigation, please contact the Comox Valley RCMP at (250) 338-1321 and refer to file 2024-17022.
