File # 2024-19872

On October 10, at approximately 3:34 p.m., West Shore RCMP Frontline officers responded to a call of a hit and run collision that took place at the Peninsula Co-op Gas Station 890 Goldsteam Ave in Langford.

Officers attended the scene and learned that the driver of a Grey 2005 Mazda 3 is alleged to have driven into the victim at a slow rate of speed after being confronted about drinking and driving. The victim received non-life-threatening injuries and was treated on scene by B.C. Emergency Health Services.

Witnesses were able to provide the licence plate of the vehicle to police and Frontline officers quickly tracked down the driver of the Mazda who was arrested for impaired driving and assault with a weapon. The suspect, who is identified as a 66-year-old man, provided samples of his breath which indicated he had over twice the legal limit of alcohol that was allowed in his blood. The Mazda was impounded and suspect was released with an Appearance Notice and issued a 90-day driving prohibition.

West Shore RCMP will be forwarding a detailed report to Crown Counsel for consideration of criminal charges regarding impaired driving and assault with a weapon.
