Surrey man charged following assault on taxi driver

An investigation led by the Surrey RCMP Major Crime Section results in charges approved against a man for allegedly assaulting a taxi driver and causing damage to the cab.
On June 22, 2024 Surrey RCMP frontline officers responded to a report of a man who had allegedly robbed a taxi driver and then damaged the taxi prior to fleeing the scene. The suspect was located and arrested a short time later without incident. He was later released pending further investigation. Fortunately, taxi driver did not sustain any physical injuries during the incident.
The Surrey RCMP Major Crime section took conduct of the investigation and on September 10, 2024 the following charges were approved against 31-year-old Richard Nelson and a warrant was issued for his arrest:
- Assault with a weapon
- Mischief to property
On September 26, 2024, Surrey RCMP officers located and arrested Richard Nelson for his outstanding warrant. He was released by the courts with conditions which include no contact with the victim and not to be in possession of weapons.
As this matter is now before the courts, no further information will be released.
