RCMP arrest suspect who fled from police

Quesnel RCMP have arrested a repeat offender who has a history of violence after he attempted to flee from police.

On October 2, 2024 at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Quesnel RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Spears Road and Heinzleman Road in Quesnel. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the suspect vehicle which fled at a high rate of speed nearly striking two police vehicles. Due to concerns for public safety the police did not pursue the vehicle but were able to maintain sight of the suspect vehicle. The man was identified as the suspect from a break and enter from the night before. A second attempt was made to stop the suspect near Northstar Road and Highway 97 but the vehicle was able to avoid the road block and fled again, travelling south on Highway 97.

The suspect vehicle was observed colliding with a civilian vehicle near Maple Drive and Highway 97. The driver fled from the vehicle on foot and the 30-year-old man was arrested after a brief foot pursuit.

The driver of the civilian vehicle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The suspect remains in custody and will appear before the courts later today.

These types of incidents can cause a significant risk to the public, says Sgt. Clay Kronebusch. The suspect driver of this vehicle showed no regard for the safety of other on the roads.
