The Nanaimo RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a 180-pound black 27-inch cast iron dragon taken from the front porch of a home in North Nanaimo. The dragon, which was purchased some 46 years ago, was reported missing on the morning of Tuesday September 3, 2024.

The owner told police the dragon holds significant sentimental value as it was the first large purchase her and her now deceased husband made as a young couple just starting off. She also added there is only one other dragon like it in Canada. All living in various homes over the past 46 years, the dragon survived each move and was proudly placed on the front step of their home, wherever they were living.

Investigators have canvassed nearby residents looking for witnesses or CCTV footage but to date, they have not been successful. If anyone has information on the whereabouts of the dragon, please call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
