File # 2024-24833

Firearms, a stolen vehicle, and a flight from police investigation that began in Kamloops yesterday, ended in the North Okanagan with two people in custody.

On Thursday Aug. 1, 2024, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) was engaged in a proactive investigation when they observed a man who was known to police, on Raven Crescent, getting into a white car reported as stolen. With the support of Kamloops frontline officers and the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment, the CRU followed the vehicle into Falkand, where it attempted a traffic stop.

The driver allegedly fled from Kamloops police, only to be stopped by Vernon North Okanagan RCMP officers with the assistance of a spike belt. Three occupants fled on foot, but were arrested nearby; one with the assistance of the Police Dog Service Unit. All were known to the Kamloops RCMP Detachment. A semi-automatic rifle and handgun, both loaded, were seized as part of the investigation, along with suspected drugs packaged for trafficking.

This coordinated effort, which resulted from a CRU proactive investigation, led to the arrest of two men and a woman who are known to be associated to the local drug trafficking trade and its subsequent violence, said Superintendent Jeff Pelley, Officer in Charge of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment. Two of the three are being held in-custody for a bail hearing, as part of the charge recommendation and assessment process.

Charges have been approved for possession of stolen property, flight from police, and obstruct a police officer, in relation to the ongoing investigation.

A woman who was arrested at the scene was later released without process.

Anyone who witnessed or has information that may be related is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-24833.
