RCMP seeking witnesses after stranger assault

The Prince Rupert RCMP is seeking witnesses to a stranger assault that occurred last week in the 200 block of 7th Ave W and Thompson St.
On August 24th, 2024 at 11:00 am a woman reported to the police that she was approached by a man, who demanded cigarettes from her, when the woman stated she did not have any the man proceeded to assault her which resulted in significant injuries to the woman.
"Police are now reaching out anyone who may have witnessed this stranger assault," Media Relations Officer Constable Brody Hemrich said, "anyone who has dash cam footage, ring camera footage or may have been an eye witness to these events to come and speak to police."
The man was described as the following:
- An indigenous man;
- 6'1;
- long hip length black hair; and
- wearing ripped blue jeans and a black hoodie
