Charges laid in Maple Ridge homicide investigation

Background:

On May 31, 2024, at approximately 5:12 p.m., the Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a report of a shooting in the area of 223 Street and Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge. Police and first responders attended and located the victim, who was subsequently declared deceased on scene. Witnesses reported seeing a male suspect, fleeing the scene.

Update:

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct of the investigation and have been working in close partnership with the Ridge Meadows RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) to advance the investigation.

On August 23, 2024, BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) charged 26-year-old Alexander Delair of Maple Ridge with second-degree murder in relation to the homicide. Mr. Delair remains in custody.
