File # 2024

vehicles lined up waiting to be engraved  CAT coffee and hotdogs

From the dozens of vehicles lined up throughout the day, it was apparent that the Nanaimo Crime Stoppers (CS) catalytic converter (CAT) initiative was a big hit and was welcomed by vehicle owners. When the last bay door closed at Auto-Check Automotive, 107 CAT’s on various types of vehicles had been engraved. As an added bonus, $325 in donations for Crime Stoppers was received from grateful vehicle owners.

We weren’t entirely sure how the day would go. The feedback though was extremely positive, with vehicle owners being appreciative of the effort put forth do something about this issue, said R/Cst Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP Crime Stoppers Coordinator.

Auto-Check Automotive technicians certainly earned their keep and were kept busy. Once the bay doors opened and with CS volunteers directing vehicles into the bay, ten to fifteen minutes later the CAT was professionally engraved. Vehicle owners also were treated to coffee and hotdogs,  then presented with informational handouts from Rowena Narayan Road Safe Coordinator for ICBC.
