Mission RCMP were called after a steam roller was stolen from a property on Stave Lake Road. CCTV footage showed that on July 1, a man and a woman attended the property, cut through a locked gate, and drove onto the property. Three offenders then went back to the property on the evening of July 3 with a pickup truck and trailer, which they used to steal the steam roller. Officers recognized all three as known property crime offenders. The owner of the steam roller also saw the suspect’s truck parked along Lougheed Highway and notified police about its location. One of the offenders had recently been released after spending considerable time in custody for other property crimes, and was wearing an electronic ankle monitor that tracked his movements. Police reviewed his location history and identified an abandoned property of interest in the Silverdale area. Officers went to the property and found the steam roller, as well as a stolen Nissan Pathfinder, and a Hewescraft aluminium boat that had been stolen out of Stave Lake in February and which was the subject of a previous media release by Mission RCMP. Investigators have recommended break and enter and theft charges against a 43-year-old man from Mission, a 44-year-old man from Mission, and a 22-year-old woman from Mission.

Around 8:30 pm on July 1, Mission RCMP were called about a group of about 40 cars that were speeding and doing burnouts and donuts on Dewdney Trunk Road near Mill Pond. Police attended and pulled over a Ford Ranger pickup, after it was observed doing an extended burnout down the street. The 19-year-old male driver from Langley was issued a multiple tickets and his truck was impounded for 7 days. A couple of hours later, a 22-year-old man from Mission also had his vehicle impounded, after the Novice driver had more passengers than was permitted, and he provided a breath sample that registered a Warn reading on a roadside screening device.

On the afternoon of July 2, a woman reported that while she was in the area of a gas station on Lougheed Highway at Haig Street, a man walked up, exposed his genitals, and made a crude comment to her. A short time later, police were called to a fight in the same area. Although the fight was over when police arrived, witness accounts indicated that the man who had previously exposed himself may have subsequently been assaulted by a group of people in the area. Police are still investigating. Anyone with more information is asked to call Mission RCMP, at 604-826-7161.

Police were called to a collision near 14th Avenue and Tanager Street shortly before 6 pm on July 4. A red Kia Rio hatchback had crashed into a parked truck, and witnesses reported that the driver of the Kia appeared to be having an overdose. Fortunately, one bystander had Narcan with him and administered it before first responders arrived, potentially helping to save the man’s life by reversing the effects of the possible overdose. The driver was then transported to hospital, where he was placed under arrest for impaired operation of motor vehicle. A blood demand was issued, and hospital staff took samples of the driver’s blood, to be later tested for the presence of drugs. The investigation is ongoing. Any witnesses to the crash or to earlier driving by the red Kia Rio are asked to call Mission RCMP.
