Impaired driver assaults police officer

On June 7 at approximately 12:12 a.m., West Shore RCMP Frontline officers responded to a report of an impaired driver near the intersection of Merchant Way and Kelly Rd in Langford.

Police were advised a woman was observed consuming a large quantity of liquor before getting in a 2008 Hyundai Accent and driving away.

Frontline officers located the driver near the 2700 block of Jacklin Rd. When officers advised the suspect that she was being investigated for impaired driving, she became belligerent and ran away. A brief foot chase and physical struggle occurred in which the woman bit the officer’s arm. She was arrested for impaired driving, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

The suspect was held in custody and attended court on June 7. The suspect who is identified as a 24-year-old woman has been charged with the following offences:

  1. Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle Sec. 320.14 (1)(a) Criminal Code;
  2. Refuse to Provide a Breath Sample Sec. 320.15(1) Criminal Code;
  3. Obstructing a Police Officer by Resisting Arrest Sec. 129(a) Criminal Code;
  4. Assaulting a Police Officer 270(1) Criminal Code.

She was released by the courts and is set to appear again in court within the coming weeks.

The West Shore RCMP officer received minor injuries in this incident and is expected to fully recover.
