Mounties in Alert Bay kept the community members well fed during the Annual Power Outage Loonie Auction.

On May 26, 2024, Alert Bay RCMP detachment officers joined the local community event which aimed at raising funds for the annual June Sports Soccer Tournament which is set to occur between June 14th and June 16th. The Annual Power Outage Loonie Auction coincides with an annual scheduled BC Hydro Power Outage here on Cormorant Island. The entire island loses power from 08:00 hrs to 20:30 hrs while BC Hydro conducts upgrades to the power system.

In the spirit of working with our First Nations and Alert Bay communities we provide our Indigenous Policing Service (IPS) Tent and BBQ and cook for the communities said Sgt. Erin Stevenson, detachment commander for the Alert Bay RCMP. Further, there will also be a parade procession on Friday June 14th, from the BC Ferries Terminal on Front Street, to the local First Nations Big House, a location of great cultural and spiritual significance, where traditional ceremony and business is conducted. Several RCMP members will lead the parade with Indigenous Elders.
