Richmond RCMP is pleased to report the outcomes of the latest series of ‘boost & bust’ operations to combat retail theft, which have recently been expanded with additional resources of our frontline officers. These enhanced efforts reflect our commitment to proactive policing and community safety.

Over four dates in April and May, the expanded ‘boost & bust’ operations led to the arrest of 35 offenders, 27 of whom were non-Richmond residents. Notably, 18 of these individuals used the Canada Line to enter Richmond, highlighting the regional impact of retail theft.

Staff Sergeant Paula Maan, acting Officer-in-Charge of Richmond RCMP Frontline Operations, remarked, The significant results achieved through these expanded operations demonstrate the impact of enhanced efforts and resources allocated to combatting retail theft. Highlighting the organized-crime element often common to retail theft, Staff Sergeant Maan continues, In many cases, the types of food and clothing items we recover are suggestive of the intention to re-sell. We remain committed to safeguarding our local businesses and ensuring Richmond remains a secure place for everyone.

Richmond RCMP encourages local businesses and residents to continue reporting any suspicious activities. Your vigilance is crucial in helping us deter and address retail theft effectively.

The successful results of these enhanced operations underscore the value of community-police collaboration and the City of Richmond’s support. We continue to assess and plan for additional operations based on ongoing needs and feedback.
