File # 2021-1125

The accused has now entered a guilty plea in the 2021 death of Naomi Onotera.

Background:

On August 29, 2021, the family of Naomi Onotera reported her missing from her home in Langley, BC. What began as a missing person investigation led by the Langley RCMP, was later turned over to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) after evidence was located that led investigators to believe Mrs. Onotera had been met with foul play. IHIT continued the investigation for approximately three months utilizing several different specialized units from the BC RCMP as they progressed the investigation.

On December 17, 2021, homicide investigators arrested 49-year-old Obnes Regis, the husband of Mrs. Onotera, who was subsequently charged with manslaughter and indignity to human remains.

On May 31, 2024, Regis appeared in court, where he entered a plea of guilty to both charges. Sentencing in the matter is scheduled for June 2024.
