Monthly road report for April highlights commitment to road safety in Richmond

Richmond RCMP’s Road Safety Unit (RSU) is committed to enhancing road safety and fostering safe driving habits within our community. As part of our ongoing efforts to inform and engage the community, we present the April edition of our Monthly Road Report.

April road safety summary:

In April, Richmond RCMP issued a total of 848 traffic tickets, including 745 violation tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act, highlighting our proactive approach to curtailing unsafe driving behaviours. Key categories of violations included:

• Driver License infractions: 178
• Impaired driving: 28
• Speeding: 145
• Distracted driving: 92

These efforts are part of our ongoing commitment to reduce traffic violations and collisions through active engagement and education.

Identified high volume collision zones:

Our data indicates an increase in traffic collisions in several areas across Richmond. We urge all road users to exercise additional caution in the following high-risk zones:

• No. 5 Road & Steveston Hwy.
• Minoru Boulevard & Granville Avenue
• Cambie Road & Lansdowne Road
• Cambie Road & Odlin Crescent
• No. 1 Road & Youngmore Road

Special focus for May – High risk driving and speed awareness:

May marks the observance of High Risk Driving and Speed Awareness Month. This initiative is part of a broader, province-wide campaign aiming to mitigate speeding and aggressive driving behaviours that significantly contribute to road incidents. Multiple special enforcement operations will be occurring over the course of the month to educate drivers on road safety.

Enhancing road safety is a collaborative effort that extends beyond law enforcement, says Sergeant Eric Baskette, RSU. This May, we have intensified our efforts to remind everyone of the critical role they play in protecting not only their lives but also those of other road users.The RSU encourages all residents and drivers in Richmond to stay informed through our monthly reports and to participate actively in making our roads safer.
