Kelowna RCMP ICE Unit investigation leads to conviction

On February 16, 2023, Aaron James Paul was sentenced to a 24-month conditional sentence order for possession of child pornography, now known as child sexual abuse material (CSAM), stemming from an investigation conducted by the Kelowna RCMP General Investigative Section. Conditions of the order included house arrest and not to possess similar material.

On April 5, 2023, the Kelowna RCMP Integrated Child Exploitation Unit executed a search warrant on Mr. Paul’s residence where additional evidence was secured supporting new charges of possession of CSAM. He was arrested for breaching the conditions of his conditional sentence order and was compelled to court following a thorough report to Crown Counsel.

On February 14, 2024, Aaron James Paul pled guilty to possession of CSAM and was sentenced to two years jail. The sentencing judge also placed Aaron James Paul on other conditions for a period of 10 years as well as a lifetime order under the Sexual Offender Information Registration Act mandating him to register with the National Sex Offender Registry.

The Kelowna RCMP Integrated Child Exploitation Unit’s mandate is to investigate the possession and distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material. The unit prioritizes investigations of repeat offenders which is the case involving Mr. Paul. Our ICE investigators remain dedicated in their pursuit of maintaining a safe community by holding those accountable who choose to exploit children of all our communities Cpl.
