Woman's death deemed a homicide

On January 10, 2024, the Nanaimo RCMP responded to a request for a wellness check of 33-year old Nanaimo woman. Prior to police arriving at her apartment, several witnesses had attended to the same unit. Inside the apartment, they encountered an unidentified man, along with the deceased person. Despite the efforts of witnesses the unidentified man fled and could not be located. Based on the circumstances, the Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crime Unit attended and took conduct of the investigation.

After further investigation, on January 16, 2024, the woman’s death is believed to be criminal in nature and has been deemed a homicide. The man who was in the apartment and fled, was later identified and has spoken with police.

Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a gray 2007 Nissan Sentra with BC plate SP272P (stock photo) that was reported stolen and is related to the investigation. If this vehicle is located or if anyone knows the whereabouts of the vehicle, please call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.

This investigation is ongoing and at this time, police do not believe there is any risk to the public, said R/Cst Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
